The 5K and 10K share the same finish line and the final stretch is a down hill quarter mile section on Barnett starting at St. Charles Avenue. The Intown Ten has become a favorite with runners because of the scenic course, high quality long sleeved t-shirts for 10K participants and short sleeved t-shirts for 5K participants and finishers flags for the first 100 10K finishers. New for 2019, the top 50 5K finishers will receive finishers flags, and all 10K finishers registered by February 25th will receive finisher medals. Complimentary snacks from vendors such as Press And Grind, Sprouts, Go Go Squeez and more await at the finish line. Sponsors will be set up at the race village in John Howell Park. The Unbattle Project (UP) is a non-profit organization that offers free confidential counseling to men and women in the military. We believe that service members and veterans are “bent, not broken”. We want to help them get back to their lives by providing no-cost therapy in order to reduce the likelihood of homelessness and suicide. Did you know that 1 in 5 veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars are diagnosed with PTSD and/or depression and that over 50% of homeless veterans have mental health issues? Did you also know that 20 veterans commit suicide each day and that veterans make up 20% of U.S. suicides? San Diego is known for being a military town. In fact, there are over 100,000 active duty and 240,500 veterans residing in San Diego County. It is very important that we get these men and women the help they need. If left untreated, many military men and women with mental health issues will continue to struggle to keep jobs. Consequently, these veterans end up on the streets, adding to our growing homeless population.
