Mount Bohemia Trail Running Festival

Mount Bohemia is well known for being one of the premier adventure ski resorts in the nation. Trails consist of a combination of single track, double track, rolling hills and a few “good climbs.” The ½ Marathon and 10k will gradually climb to the peak of the mountain and offer spectacular views from near the top of the chairlift. The 5k will offer more gradual but still challenging terrain that traverses a scenic trail around the mountain. There is a net elevation gain of approximately 2,100 ft and a net loss of 2,100ft (see maps below) in the half-marathon. The course for the 50k ultra is currently in development. It will include the trails that are traveled in the ½ marathon, as well as brand new trails on our property near Lac La Belle.

Run Above the Clouds

As of 2018 both our 5K and 10K routes are USATF certified as well as qualifiers for the AJC Peachtree Road Race. We use the MyLaps timing system.  The Run Above the Clouds 5K and 10K races have been reported to be the highest held in Georgia.  The races are over a beautifully scenic but challenging out and back course through the north Georgia mountains.  Instead of traffic, sidewalks and curbs, you are battling mountains and elevation. It’s a bear of a course and occasionally a shy bear is spotted along the route.  Those charismatic shy bears are featured each year on the event t-shirts.  The profile of the race is also the mountains on the shirts. For those who desire to just enjoy the fresh mountain air and fall colors there is a 1 mile Fun Run & Dog Jog over a mostly flat course. Baby strollers, as well as well-behaved, vaccinated dogs on leash are welcome (one dog per participant). Dog owners are responsible for their pet waste, The race is held in conjunction with the Indian Summer Festival held at the Woody Gap School.  If you would like to check out the race and lovely mountain and lake views around Suches, as well as our race profile map, visit www. runabovetheclouds.org. The proceeds from Run Above the Clouds are used to furnish college and technical school scholarships for graduates of our K-12 Woody Gap School, the last K-12 public school in Georgia. The Run Above the Clouds is a 501c3 nonprofit organization.  Event details and scheduleLocation    All three races are out and back and will start and finish in the parking lot across from the Suches Community Center on State Highway 60 and next to Woody Gap School in Suches, GA.  Suches is 16 miles north of Dahlonega.  From Dahlonega, follow Highway 60 north and continue on Highway 60 past the rock pile (Indian Princess Trahlyta's grave). Then, Highway 60 climbs eventually through Woody Gap where the Appalachian Trail crosses. Continue on to the Suches Community Center which is on the right just past the post office.  Free parking is available at the community center. The Run Above the Clouds waiver (found at the bottom of form questions) must be signed in order to run in any race.   Fees for both 10K & 5K races are $30 till Sept. 11th and $35 from  Sept 12 - Oct. 2 when Active.com registration ends.  Only those runners who register by Sept. 11th will receive a high quality long-sleeved or short-sleeved shirt (your choice) on race day.   Those who register after Sept. 11 can order (at the race) and have their shirt mailed to them- registration covers it.   Awards for both races will be given  2 deep (male, female) as well as by age groups:  14 & Under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+.  Also, there is an overall winner for both races. Fun Run & Dog Jog Fee is $25 by Sept 11th and $30 thereafter. The one mile Fun Run is over a fairly level course.  Only those runners who register by Sept. 11th will receive a high quality short-sleeved t-shirt on race day. Those who register after Sept. 11 can order (at the race) and have their shirt mailed to them- registration covers it.
