US Pararescue Challenge

This aint hell, but you can see it from here ….The Air Force Pararescueman (PJ) is the US Air Force's ground special operations combat medic specifically trained to rescue fallen military members in all branches of the service. While many other special operations units note their successes by how many enemy soldiers they kill or capture, the Air Force PJ is trained to primarily save lives. The physical demands placed on the students, accompanied by a lack of sleep, produce a stressful environment. The extended training day is designed to introduce students to the rigors of operations and promote team building. It approximates what a day would be like for pararescue specialists, especially those in combat situations. It's intense because it needs to get as close as possible to the chaos of the battlefield. Before the training course is complete, the students will know exactly what it means to be pushed to physical and mental limits without the benefit of a full night’s sleep. The "extended training day," also known as Hell Night, is a highly intense workout of near-constant moving or discomfort for a solid day and night.Pararescue school is one of the most difficult things in the world. The dropout rate is about 80%.

The Hurly Burly - Swim, Run, Swim/Run

Set in North Wales on the edge of Snowdonia, this 10k swim is the most beautiful we have ever found. It starts on the sandy beach of Barmouth and takes swimmers up the wide and sandy estuary, with mountains on either side, through ‘the narrows’ and on to Penmaenpool, An 11k run takes place at the same time as the swim, which will take you from Barmouth Beach, over the iconic Barmouth Bridge then flank the estuary all the way to Penmaenpool. Then there's the swim/run - an 11k run followed by the 10K swim for those of you keen for a double challenge. You will be bused to Penmaenpool to join the Mawdacch Trail. You'll run 11k to the swim start in Barmouth alongside the banks of the estuary and across the Barmouth Bridge, then swim back under it with the other swimmers on the incoming tide. All participants will be reunited at the event finish to gather for hot food and to warm up on fire pits, and celebrate.

Hever Castle Triathlon

Hever Castle Triathlon has established itself as an essential destination for British and international triathletes, for its picture postcard venue, elite action, age-group choice and festival atmosphere. Distance options, including children's races, also aquathlon, duathlon and aquabike standard and sprint events. Also swim only events with a choice of three distances: 5k, 2.5k and 1mile, and a choice of two stunning, off road, spectator friendly estate loop runs - 10k and Half Marathon. 28/29 September.
